Gallium-68 Dotatate
Listed as Ga-68 dotatate
FDA approved
Digestion and weight
How it works
Carries gallium-68 to somatostatin receptors on hormone-making gut tumors so they glow on a PET scan, flagging who gets lutetium.
What it's made of
8 amino acids in a ring (octreotate, a cousin of octreotide) plus a chemical “trap,” DOTA, that captures a radioactive gallium-68 atom.
What it's for
- Prescribed for
- Finding neuroendocrine tumors with somatostatin receptors on a PET scan. It does not treat: it diagnoses and helps choose who gets lutetium-177.
Educational satire, not medical advice.
