Bones and muscles
How it works
Mimics calcium at the parathyroid's calcium-sensing receptor, so the glands release less parathyroid hormone. Given after dialysis.
What it's made of
Seven amino acids in their “mirror” form (D), joined by a sulfur bridge to a normal cysteine. It does not copy any hormone: it mimics calcium at the sensor of the parathyroid glands.
What it's for
- Prescribed for
- Secondary hyperparathyroidism in adults with chronic kidney disease on hemodialysis.
Educational satire, not medical advice.
